ABOUT OUR CHEF
Señor Wong is pleased to appoint Cody Monson as executive chef. Chef Monson most recently worked at Lurcat Bar & Café in Minneapolis, Minn. Prior to Lurcat, Cody worked at Levee Café in Hastings, MN where he specialized in Regional American and French cuisine and The White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport, ME, an AAA Five Diamond and Mobil 5-Star restaurant.
Chef Cody has added a weekend dinner menu that features fresh seafood from Coastal Seafoods. With high quality seafood as his base, Chef Cody is able to take food that is simple and highlight the flavors and simplicity of it while infusing Asian and Latin flavors to bring unique dishes such as Sambol & miso glazed sushi grade blue marlin with caramelized ginger pad thai noodles and tempura battered wild asian mushrooms; and black sesame chilean sea-bass with stir-fried yu choy, crispy sweet potato dumplings and spicy pineapple/thai basil sauce.
"We have the great good fortune of having Cody lead our kitchen," says managing partner Son Truong, "Cody has a culinary curiosity to learn and try new flavors, which is the basis of his passion for cooking. And you definitely see it in his attention to detail and his desire to take traditional Asian and Latin flavors and modernize them.”
Along with his culinary curiosity, Cody also brings an interest in bringing global flavors to the Midwest. "I want people to eat the way people in Latin and Asian countries eat," explains Cody, "to order more dishes and share - take a bite and pass it to the left." This desire inspired Cody and the owners of Señor Wong to develop the format of Señor Wong’s menu with a broad selection of Botanas (Appetizers). Some of the highlights from the Botanas section are Korean short ribs, Pinchitos Morunos (pork loin skewers with chimichurri sauce) and Szechwan dumplings. It allows customers to try many different flavors and cuisines.
